"It was none of my business. I'm just here to eat/shop. I don't want to get involved." I think it's the classical American attitude. If you're not American, do you think reactions in your country would be different?
If this indifference carried over into national foreign policy, the US would more likely follow an isolationist/"staying to itself" policy, instead of being in everybody's business.
I'm curious if people's reactions would have been different in other countries, though.
