Admitted? No, but they'll take anyone with the grades. Joel Send a noteboard - 13/01/2011 09:47:42 PM
Our universities have taken ideological imbalance to such an extreme that we can no longer pretend that is OK. Besides sociobiology isn't really science. What if the only hired white men over the ager of thirty? Would you trust them to studies on minorities and females issues? Of course you wouldn’t so why should we trust a group that only hires liberals?

Faculty chosen on academic credentials are credible, including conservatives. Sometimes they are conservatives, but if, especially in the social sciences, far more of them happen to have been liberal since most of Europe was still ruled by monarchs, perhaps you're putting the cart before the horse. Remember, this is the same system you accept without question when it says men tend to outperform women in mathematical ability--but when it suggests the truth may be more complex, suddenly it's tainted by politics and "sociobiology isn't really a science". As the Church Lady used to say, "how conveeenient... ". To say that's inconsistent is an understatement.

If the system's biased we can't trust its evaluation that men outperform women in math; if it isn't we should trust its judgement that those evaluations themselves MAY be biased. Regardless, it's disappointing that every single time experienced professionals disagree with you it's because of a liberal conspiracy, even if making that argument requires you to contradict yourself (and I'm still surprised by how often it does just that).
