It wasn't the day of being lost in the maze like corridors that freaked me out. It wasn't the two heavy binders full of regulations, though those certainly helped. It wasn't the tour of the various ICU's. It wasn't the look at the Emergency Room, the closer look at the ER trauma rooms, or even the step by step instructions on the many things I would have to do and monitor when paged to a trauma situation.
No, what really freaked me out was hearing the step by step instructions on the many things I would have to do and monitor when paged to a trauma situation described in a tone most would reserve for instructions on the making of a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.
It's a Children's Hospital. This... is gonna be hard.
And the answer came to her instantly: pride. Oh, you hear them say it's a sin; you hear them say it goes before a fall. the shepherd prides himself on keeping the wolf out from the flock. We pride ourselves on making a good history of our lives, a good story to be told.
So I am going to be working at a Children's Hospital this semester.
