Most of my friends know how to get in touch with me (phone/e-mail/a few other venues). When I need to get in touch with them, it is not through facebook. I guess I've lost a few "friends" by not keeping up with facebook, but I can't say I regret it too much.
You know, I thought the same about Twitter for quite a while. And yes, there is some truth to that, but the fact is, you have a lot more control over what you can see on Twitter than on facebook. I use it mostly as a way to get quick notifications on things I'm actually interested in (unlike a Facebook feed), not as a way to project my stream of consciousness or vicariously experience someone else's bowel movements. Though I suppose it can be used for the latter as well, if that's your cup of tea. For me, it was that moment when facebook turned in Twitter that I realized it was over.
Facebook is the reduction of human interaction to the level of vapid narcissism. Don't even get me started on what that makes Twitter.

Is this because of the people who want Megan Fox to play Lanfear in the WoT movie...

The easy way around that is to simply take them off your friends list.

I'm interested in what my friends are doing, generally.

It does happen in real life, but not usually with my friends.

And not in such a concentrated manner.

Yeah, in that case I would just hide them.

In that case, what is the point of having them as "friends"?

My reason:
