Re: True, Swann is much better than Warne Colonel Logain Send a noteboard - 09/12/2010 12:31:31 AM
It does make me wonder if part of Warne's legacy will be that Australia will take years to develop a good spinner, having left such a huge standard to live up to. The selectors and media do need to face up to the fact that anyone is going to fall short - they need to forget about Warne and instead of trying to find a young Warne just work out if there is a spinner good enough to be picked or if they are better off getting a decent non-spinner instead until there is.

Of course, it's very hard to forget about him as he's one of the commentators for the series.

There's one spinner in Australia I'd pick - Jason Krezja. He got 12 wickets on debut in India, but followed it up with a very poor return in Perth, and hasn't been considered again.

Of course, Warne averaged nearly 50 in Perth (that's with the ball, by the way :P )

I think the selectors realise it takes time, but seeing as we dominated cricket for the last 20 years, losing 2 tests in a row is an absolute disaster, and losing the Ashes in Australia is near unthinkable, so the selectors are under immense pressure to keep changing the team and hoping something works.

And don't even get me started on how our quicks are going at the moment...

I have nothing to add. I just wanted to be included in this thread.
