That most of what we know is based on what other people tell us. We have neither the time nor the inclination to dedicate years studying the issue ourselves and coming to an informed opinion. So, really, if you think about it, human beings are actually quite trusting.
Like when we were watching an animation showing DNA replication. DNA polymerase III, Okazaki fragments etc.. What if it's all a huge, f*cking joke and no one really knows for sure? Well, of course it's all for real, but there are moments of desperation, like when we were told of Poly A:s. My head might explode.
My biology class aside, I get your point. No society would function without that kind of trust, though. I don't find it scary, it's just how things are.
It's quite scary to think...
