Again, as many people think he's done too little as think he's done too much, and his response to Wyden-Bennett (which I did know about but had forgotten) illustrates that well. Of course, since it prevented Bennett being renominated by his own party, well, I don't think he lost his Senate seat because the middle hates him (although the "middle" in UT isn't in quite the same place as elsewhere). I think the middle recognizes that the country is in multiple crises and needs aggressive government action. I guess we'll find out in two years when the GOP is patting itself on the back for two more years of government paralysis; we'll see if you guys can sell that to the voters after our economy and security continue collapsing for two more years. Personally, I had more respect for trickle down theory; it doesn't WORK, but at least it acknowledges the fact government has a real and vital role in managing the economy.
