*shrugs* Fine, you know the inner workings of the GOP from the '60s to the '80s than one of its key policy creators at the time. Whatever helps you sleep nights. Personally, I'm more comfortable admitting my failings and my associates, repudiating them and trying to do better, but sometimes I feel the main difference between me and most of the GOP is that they like to channel Stephen Decatur. It's certainly noteworthy that the only person I've ever heard dispute his version of events is you (I have more faith in the analysis of someone who actually MADE many of the decisions about which you and I can only speculate thirty years later).

I read what he was saying just fine though; certainly his virtual deathbed repudiation of, well, nearly everything for which the modern GOP stands, jibes better with my version of events. Funny how many senior members of the Reagan administration ultimately admitted that everything people like me always said about them was true. Talk to me about Kool-Aid, man; you won't even belief your own partys leadership statements about its policy unless its convenient.
