I suspect that's much of it, though she does lend herself to caricature.

the Speaker of the House is supposed to push the President's agenda in Congrees. Pelosi did a very good job of doing just that. Much better than Reid did as Senate Majority Leader. So that could be part of it. The rest likely boils down to misogyny if we are going to be honest about it. As someone who is happy to see the House under Republican control, I have to admit I was troubled at the level of nastiness directed at her both pre and post-election.
She's about as far left as you'd expect a SF Rep. to be, and the traditional Dem "man of the people" role doesn't fit well with scions of political dynasties. I respect RFK for lending his position and notoriety to poverty stricken areas previously largely ignored, but I'm not naive enough to think he could fully identify with those people. His grandfather, sure, but he had no inkling of what their day to day lives were like. Say what you like about her, she knows how to twist arms and count votes a lot better than Reid. For all that the order of the day was supposed to be conciliation and bipartisanship, Pelosis confrontational "we've got the majority you had in '02 so stfu" style delivered a decent bill (by liberal standards) while Reid and Obama delivered a dogs dinner despised by everyone but insurance companies.
Not that it really matters any more. America will spin her wheels for two years and then put a Wall Street lackey not COMMITTED to anything (perhaps including Mormonism, though I doubt it) in charge. Good thing we don't have any pressing emergencies, and that the boys on Wall Street are so trustworthy.

I'm not sure that's enough; Pelosi's far more liberal than either of them.
