Saying that Palin has zero following among conservatives is clearly not true, but neither is it remotely true that she is the face and soul of the Republican party, which I agree with RT is indeed what a lot of people seem to suggest or even say out loud. She has a sizeable following, and every interest in making that following appear much larger than it really is, but still, it's significant.

And of course that is something that happens everywhere and has done so for as long as I can recall - it is not a brand new Palin only phenomena by any stretch of the imagination. People on both sides do it all the time which is why I find it so disingenuous of people to concentrate on complaining about the coverage she gets when really they are also singling her out.

And as you admitted, it's quite natural for the many conservatives who don't like her to want to minimize the talking about her, and to get annoyed when her influence is overstated, or when people attack the Republicans or conservatives because of things Palin (or Angle, or O'Donnell) says or does. And the Democrats and liberal media are definitely doing both of those things on a regular basis.

Well yes but it is of course more complex than that - they do have their supporters and it isn't as if there is a true leader of the right but rather various leaders of which Palin is very clearly one and a very attention hungry one at that. There is room to argue the exact amount of coverage she gets but that holds true for countless political figures... of course she is one of the more embarrassing ones so it is understandable people are more bothered about being linked to her.

So, you know, I'm not sure you two really disagree all that much in your assessment of Palin's importance or lack thereof...
