Use your legs as a pivot points, your arms as levers. Squat with your knees out in front of and the tire standing up and in front of the rotor, it is a good idea to align the rotor so the lug bolts more or less line up with where the holes in the wheel will be. You then grab the bottom of the tire on either side. Keep your arms resting on the tops of your thighs then lift the tire by leaning your weight forward and bending your arms at the elbow. Make sure you keep your arms on the top of legs and don't use your back. Until you get some practice it can throw you off balance so don’t be afraid to drop the tire if you have to. Once the tire is on put a foot up against the bottom to keep it from falling off. If it is a smaller tire you can roll it in place then sit down place your feet under it on either side lift with your feet keeping your heels on the ground.
Next week we will cover the proper use of a piston jack.
