I'm also the type who didn't like my parents in my space even when I was younger and living with them.
But really, it's not like his dad will stop loving him because he can't come over and clean at will any more. If he does, then obviously he has some serious issues that should be addressed by a professional. Assuming his dad is otherwise stable, though, your roommate should just suffer through a month or so of grouchy dad.
