My sympathies. 6 years is a good life though. You should be proud! *NM* Timthetrolloc Send a noteboard - 22/10/2010 06:16:13 AM
At 00:38 SGT, it experienced a severe power surge that rapidly triggered its hard drive to go into mechanical arrest. Right before it went down, it sputtered as if it were saying... WHYYYY? This was soon followed by a blank screen staring back at me, its 32-bits of color draining out into a lifeless black ocean as it ascended into computer heaven.

I tried my best to resuscitate it, I really did. I tried the simple stuff first, like fixing its boot sectors, but that didn't help. Then I gave it an intradiscal dose of Ubuntu to see if I could detect any brain activity. Unfortunately, it did not respond well to this; it must be allergic or something. Actually, it might even have had a Do Not Resuscitate order, now that I think about it. Whatever.. QQ.

And so, as it turns out, it could be saved with a hard drive transplant, but I'm not sure if it would like to live on like that. I'm pretty sure it didn't (I think). And so, I decided to pull its plug.

We sure had some good times over the past 6 years, buddy. I remember when you once dated that iPad. It was way out of your league, though.

Anyway, I'm not sure what the appropriate amount of time a guy should mourn for his computer is, but I'm pretty sure I need to move on asap :P I think it would want it that way, too.

Well crap. Now I'm left without a real computer and I really need a replacement. My gut wants me to build a new one, but my brain tells me I should probably just replace the blown hard drive and stop there. Anyone have any advice? Or similar stories they want to share? Condolences? Sympathies? Insults? Go right ahead :D

6 years old? Don't just replace the HD - build a new one, if you have the cash. - 22/10/2010 01:35:08 PM 569 Views

A power surge is likely to corrupt your RAM as well, and possibly motherboard components. *NM* - 22/10/2010 06:39:06 PM 276 Views
I tested the RAM, it's fine. - 22/10/2010 07:00:27 PM 599 Views
