churches tend to refelect society as much if not more then they influence it

There seems to be more focus about homosexuality in churches now then when I was growing up but I can promise you it would be a lot easier to come out now than when I was in school. I am not sure what would have happened to an openly gay student in Humble High School in 1983 but I would guess he would have to transfer. The one punk rocker we had got kicked out of school because he got in so many fights, I don’t believe he started a single one.
Society as whole as become more tolerant of most things including homosexuality. Some churches are already reflecting that and are teaching tolerance regardless of whether or they it is a sin. Most churches in the south would strongly condemn segregation but 40 years ago they found biblical justification for it. As society changes the churches will either change with or be marginalized.
Attacking the church for reflecting the attitude of society simply causes entrenchment of ideals and lessens tolerance. Savage is not doing the gay movement any favors with hate filled attacks on people trying to start a dialog.
