Meh. The place may be in Yankeeland, but the whole tone and history of that song is Southern. Although the weird thing about the minstrel shows is that they seem to have been the most popular for the longest times in places with the lowest black populations. I guess it was only funny if people weren't confronted with the people being ridiculed.
