Which is exactly what the writer tried to make him see. It's not about that woman's feelings, it's about him being the same as what he accuses Christians of. He lacks in nuance, and thereby weakens his own points.
It makes more sense to find a solution together than to alienate everyone who smells like the opposition.
Of course, this is happening in all contexts where suppression of freedom occurs. It's the same with overly zealous feminists, the new populists against Islam, etc.
If you want to be against something, you should be against the underlying mechanism as much as the front. Be against the denial of freedom, against the suppression of people living their lives the way they want, regardless which group we're talking about. Whether it's Christians, Muslims, gays, women, men, etc.
