I was immediately turned off by him telling the guy to fuck off. That said I think the rest of Savage's letter sounds as bad as the far righties who blather on about the Islamization of America and Muslim's desires to implement Sharia Law in America. Savage makes it sound like the streets are running everywhere with the blood of bullied homosexuals, that gay kids are getting picked on everywhere across this country. Sorry, but while I definitely think that it is wrong to bully and that homosexuals deserve equal rights and recognition as full, equal human beings I think Savage sounds ridiculous. Gay and Lesbian kids are not dying all over the country. His lumping this guy and his (in my opinion misguided) view about homosexuality into the same group as those who do bully homosexuals (and target them specifically) was wrong. If Savage had any class he would apologize to the man and explain that his passion about a particularly relevant to him subject got the better of his common sense.
But wine was the great assassin of both tradition and propriety...
