One way bullying thrives is by treating people different and ostracizing them. While they parents may be preaching to love the sinner, and to treat all people with respect, if they ostracize a group of people their actions are conflictatory. They say one thing but do another.

FACT is that many (note I ain't saying all or even using the word majority) of religious people treat being gay as different than sinning. Being gay is living in "sin," it is an innate part of the person, and that person is different than "us." The US vs Them part is all you need to make bullying thrive.

FACT, bullying of gay people, or people that are perceived as different (such as being an effeminate boy), leads to a higher rate of suicide than the general teen population.
