One of my younger cousins, James Lind, 46, currently of Wilton, CT was lost in a kayaking accident late Friday afternoon. He was seen in a two-person kayak on the Norwalk River in Wilton along with his girlfriend at 5:15 pm yesterday. About 45 minutes later, a couple of employees at The Schoolhouse Restaurant in Wilton saw the capsized kayak in the water. A few minutes later, they saw a woman being carried by the water. One of the men went in and pulled her out. She was taken to the hospital by EMS where she was pronounced dead. As of tonight, when the search was called off due to darkness, they have still not found my cousin's body.
Between Thursday and Friday, this part of Connecticut got between 5-8 inches of rain. So the river was swollen with rain water and flowing far more rapidly than normal. So kayaking in that is not unlike surfing during an offshore tropical storm/hurricane. It's extremely stupid. But I feel really bad for my aunt. He was her youngest of three kids. She is my mother's younger sister. His father passed away over 15 years ago. Now her youngest, and no body yet recovered. That really sucks.
