1) Which languages did you learn in school, and for how long?
English all the way through. I recall doing Spanish in first and second grade, but at the time (late 80s) I don't think it was as in-depth as language studies have become more recently (especially Spanish, here in the US). After second grade I moved to Canada, where we were required to learn either French (Quebecois, specifically) or Cree beginning in fourth grade. I took French through tenth grade, for a total of six years. After tenth grade, language was no longer mandatory so I didn't take it any more.
2) Which languages would you say you speak with some degree of fluency?
I can still read French and write to a lesser extent, but spoken is much more difficult. Via French, a miniscule amount of Spanish.
3) Do you think languages get too much attention in the school system you went to, too little, or just about enough?
I moved several times, but in general I think that the earlier one starts is better.
4) What do you think of the remarkable dominance of English that appears in the data?
I don't think it's remarkable at all, given the onslaught of American media in the last 50 years. And while English as a "common language" is convenient for me personally, I think that having a common language in general is a good thing - even if it wasn't English. Though at the same time, I see no reason why any one language should become the only language used by all people.

Self-study can be worth as much as formal classroom study, I suppose

They should have asked about second languages rather than foreign languages.
