1) Which languages did you learn in school, and for how long?

Finnish for 12 years (well, I'm on the 12th year now)
English: nine years
Swedish: five years
German: four years

I'd like to add another language to the list some day, too. Estonian might be nice. Actually, I'd love to learn Icelandic because it seems so awesome, but that's probably not realistic. We'll see.

2) Which languages would you say you speak with some degree of fluency?

I can read a newspaper in Swedish and I think I have a pretty good accent, but that's the extent of my ability. My German is about the same. I have no real problems with English.

3) Do you think languages get too much attention in the school system you went to, too little, or just about enough?

Well, English is a must. We have mandatory Swedish, which doesn't make too much sense but I'm okay with it. I think the national curriculum was changed so that Swedish will begin to be taught to even younger pupils and some people are wishing that the people who live in the east could switch Swedish to Russian, since it would serve them better.

4) What do you think of the remarkable dominance of English that appears in the data?

Remarkable?
