They are almost invariably nutters. Elaine Send a noteboard - 23/09/2010 01:45:41 PM

People are nutters. Utter nutters.

Old man on phone: I'd like to report the misuse of your funding.

Me: Oh, I see. Well, thanks for calling. Tell me about it.

Old man on phone: I don't know what I can say, really.

Me: That's fine - what's the name of the project in question?

Old man on phone: Oh, I couldn't tell you that.

Me: Mmmkay. How about telling me what town its in?

Old man on phone: God, no, I couldn't tell you that. This is very serious, you know, very serious misuse of funds. I think it's theft.

Me: I see. I do appreciate you calling me, sir, it's important that we're alerted to things like this. Could you tell me what county we're talking about?

Old man on phone: No, no, powerful people involved here, I couldn't say that.

Me: (approaching end of tether) Sir, would you like to write to me anonymously?

Old man on phone: Oh, they're very powerful, I'd be afraid anything I said might come back to me.

Me: Okay, I'll look into it. Thanks for calling!

A small sample of the lunatics I must appease.
