My question is an easy one. When you think of live music, what performances come to mind? I mean, everyone has a live show that says to them "this is what music should be" so my question really is...for you, what performance is that?
For me? Nirvana Unplugged, and Hendrix at Woodstock. To me, when I think of the absolute pinnacle of live music, those two performances are what come to mind.

Ones I've attended:
John Paul Jones, Nashville, March 2000. I've seen all three surviving members of Led Zeppelin in concert, but this one, in a club that's now destroyed, is the most special because of how intimate of a setting it was. Helped that JPJ was surprisingly charismatic and seemed to love performing in Nashville.
The White Stripes, Boca Raton, June 2003. This set is memorable because Jack White performed for 15 minutes alone after Meg got sick and had to leave the stage. He also performed a kick-ass rendition of Dylan's 1997 song, "Love Sick," that's one of my favorite cover songs of anything Dylan's ever written.
Bob Dylan and Willie Nelson, Nashville, June 2005. Do I really need to explain myself here? Let's just say the music and even the singing was great and there was a whole lot of groovin' goin' on
One's I've listened to:
Jimi Hendrix, Monterrey Pop, 1967. You know, the guitar on fire one. Actually, I think that entire music festival was much better than Woodstock.
Led Zeppelin, LA, 1972. How the West was Won. I have a dozen or so Zep bootlegs, but this official release (with the DVD material from Earl's Court, 1970) was awesome.
Bob Dylan, Manchester, 1966. Judas! And if you don't know what that references, you really need an education in R&R history.
The Band, Watkins Glen, 1976. Their last performance with all the original members.
The Nirvana and U2 performances others have already mentioned.
I'd try to choose an Allman Brothers Band or Skynyrd performance, but that'd be like trying to choose which child is your favorite.
