If it's not going to happen, the sooner it doesn't happen, the better. I hate to see people get strung out by someone else who doesn't put forth the effort or is too careless to realize what they're doing.

I think you may have hit the nail on the head here. Either she didn't realize or, just as bad, didn't much care. I'd have preferred something a bit more concrete as in "You know, I like you but not THAT way." As painful as that would be - at least it would be clear.

As it is it just amounts to 'Yeah, I'm going to go on this date with another guy,' and I'm thinking - ooookay. We've spent hours and hours and hours together (in person and by comms) for the better part of a month and virtually every day - and that's where this falls.

Joel above is probably right. Better to find out now that I'm that disposable rather than later.

And, it could be worse! You could be like me and have your boyfriend just walk out on you after 4 years. 5 months in my parent's basement later....I'm ready to be done with the mess!

LOL. That was back in March (I think before you came back). Came home to find my house trashed, my daughter gone and my wife going 'I'm leaving'. No fight, no argument, no nothing. Just *bam* out of the blue.

Fortunately the basement (and the house) are mine so at least I didn't have to move!

Really probably not over it, but I am definitely ready to be done with it, and that is the personal decision that I can make.

Remember you must be happy and content in and by yourself before you're able to really try the process of being happy with someone else. And sometimes that state is not easily found, but you take it one day at a time.

This, too, shall pass and you will be okay. :)

You are right - and already it's much better. It was just a painful shock and it's mostly passed. Surprisingly quickly in fact. I'm sure there will be flareups (that's in my nature) but I will be okay.

I just hate the entire 'dating' thing and I really don't have a lot of available ladies in my circle of friends which leaves me with the irritating problem of having to go and meet people I don't know. Not being the bar type and my hobbies being mostly guy stuff - makes things a bit challenging.

Thank you for the kind words though! It matters and it DOES help!
May God stand between you and harm in all the empty places you must walk.
