This time of year in 2004 Bush was slightly positive. According to Gallup Obama is sitting at -9. That is a ten point difference and Bush only won by a couple of points so I would say Obama would be gone if he had to face an election right now.

Hard to argue with the numbers, even if it's also hard to believe Bush had ANY kind of positive approval ratings in late summer of '04. Though, IIRC, Bush got a pretty good convention bounce and Kerry got almost none (note that prior to the convention Bushs numbers that summer only went positive ONCE, but he's positive again in the last days before the convention, and receives a 10 boost after it ends. ) Which is what he got for giving Bush the last word, but that's just one of the many inexplicable blunders of the Kerry campaign.
