Well, it's not like they're literally on ground zero. - Edit 1

Because for all the noise we see here they have to tear the building down and build a new one because this one was close enough to be permanently damaged. That sound like it is part of affected area to me even if it is not inside of the offical ground zero.
It's a large affected area, but I don't really want to get caught up in this nitpicking of where, or how far away/how close the area is. That's not what I'm trying to get into.
I am sure there has been some hysteria on the talk shows but with 70% of the country opposing it this is hardly a fringe issue and no matter what some of the fringe left choose to believe it is not because they are all believing lies spread by Glenn Beck. About the same percentage think that they should not be forced to to stop building so I would say most people have a reasonable view of the situation.
But don't you think this has turned into a bit of a national spectacle in some ways? I'm not talking about hysteria on talk shows, I'm talking about fringes that are taking advantage of this debate, and it's working. Writers and Bloggers who have been critical of Islam, who've seized on this and helped push this.
Of course the real story is how Obama has mishandled the whole situation.
Honestly, I find Obama almost irrelevant to this situation. This was blowing up far before he stepped into it. And he had to step into it eventually. If he continued dodging or ignoring the topic he would have just seemed weak and scared of not wanting to take a stand whether for or against. I really chalk this as being damned if you do, damned if you don't for any President.
