I will debate the details just out of habit but if you only justification for a law is religious then you don't have any justification I can accept.
Way back in the dark ages my very religious aunt I got me to agree to read the entire bible before I became agnostic (which was silly because I had been agnostic for some time by then). By I agreed to read it with an open mind. I read the Old Testament and what I got was it is based around the idea of protecting the exclusive right of a man to the his wives, justification of communal support of the a hereditary priesthood, rationalization for attacking and repressing their neighbors, the promise that they would be freed from the Philistines who had conquered them and some common sense rules thrown in to keep people in line. My aunt was not pleased with my take on the book.
I respect other people's right to believe but to be honest I never have been able to understand how they belive it.
