300 dollars for an armor jacket?! And it's not even the top of the line model. What a giant colossal rip off, I'd be better protected wearing a couple of pillows duct taped together.
It's over 1000 dollars for the entire ensemble of helmet, jacket, pants, gloves, and boots. That's probably more than I've spent on clothing for the last ten years or so.

that said, if you talk to the guys at your shop -- especially if you're buying a bunch of gear all at once -- they tend to give you a decent discount rather than watch you leave to spend your money elsewhere.
