I have a thing for glasses. Not the stuff you see through (well, I mean...) but the ones you drink from. In fact, I have long suspected that my thing for red wine is really founded in my love of the glass and colour. I have been forced to this conclusion by cocktail glasses.

I love them too. I have extremely beautiful Waterford martini glasses, but my favourites at the moment are my antique champagne saucers. They're so beautiful. I shall give you a wide selection of drinks in the appropriate glasses some day :D

It sounds like I'll have to get myself to Ireland.

Anyhow. My observation is the following: when someone at some point designed (presumably) this type of glasses, they must have had the ulterior motive of preventing alcohol poisoning (probably quite sensible considering British people in the 20s appear (from literature, which is the only true source of knowledge) to have started drinking martinis shortly after breakfast). It is positively impossible to keep the main portion of the contents of the glass in the glass if one has anything like a wobbly balance. I can testify to this, having just spilt water with lemon all over my sofa while trying to sit down. While completely sober.

I seem to have mastered them. I think it's the ten years' practice teetering around bars clutching a Cosmo.
