The first half of this episode of This American Life (a chicago public radio program) deals with the New York State Legislature and how they can't fix their budget. In many ways it is our national politics in miniature and helps illuminate the emotional state we are currently in and how we aren't thinking rationally.
Even when you see the perfectly rational option, life can sometimes just fail...
The situation in New York and California also show how having "divided government" isn't always a good thing (yet many people continually state it.) Need I remind you how bad the British Economy was trading when it became obvious the Conservatives won the election but didn't have enough votes to govern outright, and it look unlikely they would have a workable coalition partner (luckily for our friendly Brits Conservatives and Liberals man up, swallowed their bile, and decided to form a partnership)
So the people that actually listen to this podcast what are your thoughts?
