You can't hide your kids from germs. They are a part of a kid's life. Seriously.
That we so shelter our kids from germs that super germs grow and wipe us all out because our immune systems have never had to deal with germs and... well that's pretty much it.
We're all dead.
It's scary.
When you put your kid in daycare for the first time, the child is going to get sick. Not deathly ill, but sick. Because there are GERMS and their little body is learning how to DEAL with those germs.
If you don't put your kid in daycare, that same thing is going to happen when you put them in school. So tell me, which is better? Missing daycare days, or missing school days.
Oh, and if you don't put them in school, and opt to teach them at home (because of the germs) then you have to ask yourself, when will they get used to them? When they are adults and "sick" is harder to get better from, and you miss WORK instead of daycare or school?

Urine-soaked pants aren't good, but it's very unlikely your kid is going to die from being there.

If you replace "shelter our kids from" with "overuse antibiotics on," you're pretty much spot on. *NM*
