Because I saw too many complaints from people on various forums saying, "It doesn't look right in Opera! Fix your code so it works for the 2% of us that insist on using it!"
So that argument has some merit regardless of how many use it.

Yeah, seems like the real competition is between Chrome and Firefox, not IE.
