I don't think Russia cares to get involved. Tom Send a noteboard - 13/06/2010 02:59:41 PM
The country has only about 5 million people and no industry to speak of. While there are gold reserves, there are only a few functioning mines and most of the gold is, due to corruption, smuggled across the border to Kazakhstan and refined there.

While Russia had some concerns about keeping the US airbase at Manas open, I fail to see how instability in the country is a "bad" thing in that respect.

My assessment is just that Kyrgyzstan is a failed state. It has neither the resources, nor the population, nor the industry, nor the communications with the outside world, needed to succeed as an independent nation. It should be chopped up by Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan and forgotten, along with Biafra, Bavaria and the Confederation of the Rhine.
Political correctness is the pettiest form of casuistry.

– Procopius
