At least, not in England anyway. I'd go with the smart-casual look you described. Another option is to just go in your work uniform, that's what I did for my supervisor interview.

I'm a Security Office. And no, not a rent-a-cop. Rent-a-cops work in malls ... and parking lots. But yes, the smart-casual got me my first real retail job. Worked quite well, actually.
