Yes, that is what happens. I gave to Ron Paul & I've received dozens of e-mails from the GOP

so basically, when you give to their candidates, you are most likely giving directly to their candidates and not to a party structure like you seem to be hinting at. giving directly to candidates can be tricky, because your name will go into an FEC report and you will forever get calls from sympathetic groups hoping your donation was not a one-off thing
Yeah. Michael Steele doesn't seem to get the message that I loathe him and his party and based on the treatment of Paul by the party leadership & others of his ilk, asking Paul supporters for donations to some mythical common cause takes a lot of nerve. Of couse, given how he slaps his name all over the letters, Steele also seems to think he is important or something, rather than a figurehead chosen for his skin color. Even more amusing were the e-mails asking to "help us beat Obama," as if I did not prefer Obama to the Republican candidate. A McCain presidency would not have been that different than the current office holder, except there would have been no Tea Party movement.

It does seem a little ethically shady, to answer your real question.

They have raised House candidates in at least one region, independent of the GOP.
