To be honest, I had no idea who he was at the time, other than in passing reference as an author of a "highschool" book.
This was shortly after the Rabin assassination, so Wiesel's presence carried extra weight at the time, I guess.
I wasn't wholly impressed with him then, and remain equally meh now.
