36-37% of the population. More people than voted for anyone else.
Over 70% didn't then?
I would never deny the whole system needs changed. The lords need chucked out and a proper 2 house local/national body convened.
Very much - keep the name "House of Lords" and the titles for people while they are there but make them elected. I'd not mind if they made them quite long term elections, 6-8 years so they are in a position to look long term (but with a way of kicking out bad ones earlier, of course)
That and a longer overdue sorting out of where power lies between the centre and the regions - my preference is more towards local government but I'm going to be happy as along as it is consistent through the UK.
I like to think some politicians, the minority admittedly, have morals. Brown though, like most of them, will say and do anything to gain power, he just happens to be the best at it, hence his 'success'.
I guess we differ on this... I'll let you work out if it is down to my opinion of Brown or the average politician

In a mild British way this is the most unexpected political alliance since the Nazi-Soviet Pact.

On a vaguely related note - how long has it been since a child was born in Downing Street No. 10? *NM*
