Saw this on Political Wire and thought it was just too bizarre not to share:

Republicans Use Guy Fawkes as Inspiration
The Republican Governors Association has "embraced the symbolism" of Guy Fawkes, "a Catholic radical who is remembered primarily for his failed attempt, on November 5, 1605, to blow up the Houses of Parliament and kill King James I," Time reports.
A new website, RememberNovember.com, has a video "that showcases far more Hollywood savvy than one can usually expect from Republicans. Again, the Fawkes tale has been twisted a bit. This time, President Obama plays the roll of King James, the Democratic leadership is Parliament, and the Republican Party represents the aggrieved Catholic mass."
"The RGA, under the control of Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour, is clearly stepping out of the stodgy, safe territory it normally inhabits. It is aiming to tap into the vast well of anti-government fury now coursing through the nation."
Josh Marshall: "I find this completely bewildering. The Republican Governors Association is embracing the mantle of a 17th century radical who tried but failed to pull off a mass casualty terrorist attack to kill the King of England and all of Parliament. Only now Obama plays the role of James I. Guy Fawkes is their new hero?"
So what's the thinking here, is a certain American loudmouth too sane and reasonable, or just lost legitimacy as a representative Republican Governor now that she's taken her sideshow national? The guy tried to blow up the entire British government IN SESSION as an act of religiously motivated (and treasonous) terror. THIS is the what Republicans support? Can I get that in writing? Anyone else think Haley Barbour should have stuck with squeezing campaign donations out of CEOs and left the actual politics to the pros?

I don't see any reference to Guy Fawkes. Like, none at all.

The title does rather remind one of those "Remember, remember the fifth of November" lines...

Agree. Seems to me the November is all about the election date, what with the tick and all.

Is expecting anyone who'd watch the ad to know the elections are in November expecting too much?

True, but to (belatedly) be fair, I don't think that's REALLY the RGAs intent here.
