That really is why I stopped reading the series midway through book four though. As I read through the previous books, I kept watching people die, and saying to myself "at least ___ is still around." Reading four, I finally realized, you know what? I'm out of ____'s. :P

Just the same, you're right; there are plenty of characters still around. Unfortunately, they're the irritating ones. Arya, Sansa, and Dany. . .ugh. Jaime has gotten all mopey and boring. The prophet guy is stupid. Jon is cool, but of course, he's not in book four. I may read 5 if he has a large part. Similar sentiments for Tyrion.
