I read the first two trilogies 5-6 years ago... - Edit 1

... and since I got through all 2400 pages (in paperback) there obviously was something I liked about them, although I have a hard time remembering what now... Maybe it was the feeling of impeding doom that I found refreshing. (I sure didn't like the main character's whining.) But at times it was just plain boring and it took a lot of effort to finish them.

I just finished reading the first book Lord Foul's bane, Even though the series did not draw me in like WOT(i read the first four books as if i have an exam the next day..lol) or malazan series..it still was interesting.
I liked the fact that the main hero of the series is not a handsome, virile young idealistic guy as is the case in many a fantasy series. However with that being said i did not like how he whined his way through almost the entire book. I can understand that his life suddenly turned in to a nightmare in earth and that being pulled in to this alternate world was difficult to accept but at some point he has to come to terms with it instead he seems to be becoming more and more unbearable as a personality.
Also what is this stuff with white gold and the weird old guy he meets at the begining of the book
I have only read the first book and i am thinking about ordering other two books of the trilogy. so my question is does the series get more engrossing with each book and does the thomas covenant character get less whiney..In short will it be worthwhile to continue the series.
