I own a Kindle. They are wonderful. You can certainly curl up with your Kindle just like a "real" book.
A couple things that I find as drawbacks.
1) Looking back at something earlier in the book is harder than a real book. Thus for longer books, I am not sure I would want to read this way. Or for books where you need to go back and understand a clue from earlier. Of course you could bookmark the spot and perhaps as I get more adept at using the Kindle, that will be easier, but right now it is much easier for me to find a particular place in a hard copy of a book than in an ebook.
2) Sometimes I like to read in the bathtub. I would never advise using your Kindle when doing so. I don't suppose it holds enough electricity to electrocute you if you drop it, but I wouldn't think that being totally immersed in water is a good thing for it. Of course, being totally immersed in water isn't really good for a book either, but having dropped a book in water before I would note that books, at least at first, float, so if you are quick enough in your reactions you can usually save the book without too much temporary damage and no permanent damage.

Ideally, universities will start renting out eTextbook readers, or something. *NM*

That'd be great. My school rents out standard ebook readers now, so it won't be long. *NM*
