Availability will increase manyfold, though... in general, there is a market for HC books, and I suspect the publishers do not want it to disappear... paperbacks, though? perhaps they'll get replaced eventually.

I tend to disagree, at least with fiction. The ONLY reason I by a fiction hardcover is because the idiot publishers wait a year to release the book in paperback. If I want to read The Gathering Storm when it comes out I have no choice but to buy a hardcover even though I don't want it. Many people (to say most would be anecdotal of course) would prefer new releases in an easy to get rid of when done paperback.
