Abnett is writing a new series about a military adventurer called Triumff, set in an alt-history where Spain and England joined forces through the marriage of the Spanish King to Elizabeth I. The first book, Her Majesty's Hero, was pretty good.
His next book will apparently be a stand-alone SF novel followed by a follow-up to Her Majesty's Hero. Of course, whilst he simultaneously continues to crank out fresh WH40K material. Impressive productivity.

LOL, the opening of the review makes it sound pretty cheesy, though I'd imagine the 40k stuff sounds that way too, thanks for letting me know, I'll have to pick it up
