The books suffer from poor writing quality, and excessive preaching. The show suffers from an extreme lack of depth, and low production values (it's just too simple, and cheesy).
Anyway, I say it's hard to compare the two because each has different problems, and I'm not sure which set bothers me more.
I definitely don't care for either the books, OR the show.
Since you seem to really like Seeker, though, you should try watching the BBC's "Merlin." It's similar in that it's a fairly low budget fantasy show, but (most of it) isn't nearly as cheesy, and the characters are great. I can't exactly put my finger on why I like it so much, but it's a very enjoyable show.

This is my take too. Plus my sister who didn't read them thinks the series is rather original for TV

The books do have a large following and are all bestsellers.
