the joke has been made that Meyer uses her female characters to get what she can't in real life...I think that's rather unkind, but one does get that impression! There's nothing wrong with living vicariously through your characters, but at her level it amounts to fan fiction.
What is Bella without Edward? Well besides apparently miserable. What does Bella want? think about? what are her dreams? What is her purpose? What drives her, what conflicts her soul? Apparently the answer to all these questions is Edward. Edward who is dismissive of her worth, possessive of her being, and not to mention a total stalking creeper. There's a healthy message to send to young girls. Very healthy.
