Very glad I ignored it though. They're very, very political fantasies - perhaps the most political I have ever read. Character-based politics, with the first book featuring a prince's rise through intrique and whatnot, and then the later books focusing on the trials of ruling a kingdom with unstable elements, and then his attempt to raise a son who can take his place.

There is one flaw: the stories are really written to make the main character look awesome. It's a bit transparent, but if she's the sort of reader who won't be bothered by that, then she should check them out. I wouldn't recommend them to you for that very reason.
