As I know how much you've enjoyed reading Scholes' novels so far, I thought that I'd point out that his website has links to several of his shorter works that can be read or listened to for free.

I will check out the site and see if I can add more pieces to the puzzle. Are there more pieces to the puzzle to be found there?
Of particular interest to you will probably be the longish short story "A Weeping Czar Beholds the Fallen Moon". It's the story about Federico and the Moon Princess that is often referenced in Lamentation and Canticle.
As you know by now I've already read it.
Other than that, and the book club suggestions, I will have to think about other recommendations for you.
