The languages are similar enough that I can sort of understand Polish. Put the emphasis on "sort of".
Plus, the translation was done during the Soviet era, when there were lots of really talented people working as translators to translate works from "brotherly Socialist" countries. Although I'm far from fluent in the language, I did notice when I picked up a Russian New Testament recently that I could understand several phrases as they were somewhat close to the Serbian that I have learned to date. As for the arts bit, well...since when are the arts elevated in a capitalist society?
