The only one on his list I would think about agreeing with is Meiville. MightyYT Send a noteboard - 05/12/2009 03:11:25 AM
Lev Grossman started this, now see the interesting debate over possible choices over at Crooked Timber. Oh, and feel free to list yours here as well.

My list would include

The Wheel of Time - Jordan No other series has drawn me in and kept me reading (and re-reading) like this series.
A Song of Ice and Fire - Martin Nearly as good as WoT only with an author who seems to care less about his fans
Perdido Street Station - Mieville Still the only book to ever scare me.
Malazan Book of the Fallen - Erikson Aside from WoT, this is the series I have re-read the most.
LOTR - Tolkein - I loves my Precious!
American Gods - Gaiman - This was just an awesome way to portray ancient gods in modern times.

Yes, most were pimped on wotmania and with good reason. Notable mentions for me would include Hobb, Rawn, Lynch, Simmons, Pratchett, Sanderson, and Salvatore (say what you want, but I really enjoyed his Demon Wars novels and Mortalis alone outstanding)
Castle: This is so weird. I dressed up as him for Halloween.

Beckett: Me too.

~When Castle and Beckett met Gene Simmons.

But the list was for favorite books, not favorite or most important authors - 05/12/2009 10:25:13 AM 1242 Views
It was for "best" books. I realize that has a lot of meanings, though. *NM* - 05/12/2009 08:37:01 PM 567 Views
Hm... good point - 06/12/2009 02:19:13 AM 1025 Views

I just find Mieville's prose exceptionally standard. - 06/12/2009 07:25:05 AM 1277 Views
Isn't that almost a contradiction of terms there? - 06/12/2009 07:45:47 AM 1200 Views
