Is the character development. That's what I enjoyed so much about Babylon 5 -- which also had plenty to say about the human (or not so human) condition.
Babylon 5 is EXCELLENT in a great many ways, both as political commentary, in terms of character development and because of its generally well-constructed plot (which is quite amazing when you take into account the sabotage against it). But. That is the exception.
